Taking The Leap And Building A Team With Founder Of Wandering Bud Riley Brain

Riley Brain is a ceramicist and owner of Wandering Bud. When your day job doesn't feel fulfilling anymore, there's only one thing left to do. Invest in a kiln and clay and go full force into following your creative dreams. That's exactly what Riley did putting 100 percent trust into your creativity and leaving a stable job is scary, but as you'll learn in this episode, so worth it. Riley covers how she grew a wandering bud and created her first pieces and their line of ceramic smoking accessories, what it's like hiring and growing a team and more

Host: For everyday consumption, what is your preference? Pipe, bubbler or bong?

Riley: Bubbler.

Host: Describe what being a business owner is like in three words.

Riley: Creative, challenging, and emotional.

Host: Dream person to have a smoke sesh with.

Riley: I'm probably like biased because of what's going on in the world right now. I'm just going to say RBG because I think everyone would want to smoke with RBG right about now.

Host: What are you currently listening to while you're throwing clay?

Riley: Music, a podcast, audio book. So yeah, I mean, most of my work now is not clay related, but when I do work with clay, I'm definitely an audio book and sometimes podcast person.

One of the two. I like to be told a story while I'm working with clay, but on my laptop or social media kind of work, I'm definitely more of a music person. I just need to mentally focus more when I'm doing the kind of work I do now. Whereas with clay, it's your hands can just kind of, like, do their own thing and your mind can be wrapped up in the story.

Host: What is your biggest dream for your creative cannabis career?

Riley: So my biggest dream and this is one that I don't know if it'll ever happen because it's definitely like a, like a pipe dream, you know, pie in the sky kind of thing. But I definitely dream about having a second studio. In a warm location year-round so that I can spend my winters and summers, not in Kansas City, and instead, in a studio, that's on a beach somewhere.

And then it's a little compound consisting of a studio and a couple of tiny houses around. Even the people working in the studio can stay in the tiny houses if they're coming in from Kansas City. Or maybe somewhere like in Europe…we could expand.

I could justify having it because we could expand, you know, across the ocean. I don't know if it's practical or if it'll ever happen. Just the idea of being able to split my time between my home in Kansas City that I love, but also get to live part-time somewhere else.

Host: And then this is the last one. I just threw this in this morning because I took your pipe quiz on your website and I got the citrus pipe. Which pipe did you get?

Riley: I got the bubbler. I love hearing what people get!

Host: Where can people find you to learn more about and shop Wandering Bud online?

Riley: You can find us at Wandering Bud basically everywhere!

WanderingBud. com, on Instagram @wanderingbud and Patreon too.
